4-signs you have an all or nothing mindset and my top tips to help you overcome this.
1.You have to do it perfectly with no mistakes, and if you make a mistake, you beat yourself up.
This mindset is such a trap and can keep you stuck and feeling down on yourself. This thing with this fitness journey is that you have to learn along the way and be willing to fail forward. Failing forward means ready to keep moving forward no matter how many times you mess up. No one does this perfectly initially; that’s what makes your journey unique and rewarding once you reach your goal. It’s all those times you mess up and keep moving, which makes it so worth it at the end.
2.Waiting for the perfect timing
There is no such thing as perfect timing; you have to make up your mind to begin now. Start now, dont wait; waiting will make it harder once to get to that date. Its never going to feel right even if you set a date; you have to realize it’s going to feel uncomfortable and your mind going to fight you, but you have to make up your mind that you will start.
3.Holiday Excuses
Ok, this one I hear a lot, and it’s such a trip up for most people. Its Christmas, easter, thanksgiving, Halloween, birthdays, weddings, and the list goes on.
I have a mind-blowing secret to tell you….THERE NEVER GOING AWAY, so you can relax knowing that maybe this holiday you have to be a little more disciplined cut back on the alcohol or extra treats. said cut back, NOT cut out.
Christmas is one day out of the year, the same as other holidays. You need to choose the ones where you will let yourself indulge in and be ok with that. If you have 4 Christmas parties to go to within a few weeks, then you need to decide to either eat something before you go and not overindulge at all of them. If reaching your goals is important to you, you will make the sacrifice now to gain the benefits to come.
Make this year the year you go for it!! Go for your goals; know you will have to make certain sacrifices, but you will be happier and healthier. Dont wait to start! That’s the magic, its at this moment now. You are sitting reading this blog post for a reason, and the reason is, your ready for change. Your ready to shed old habits that dont serve you and create ones that do.
4.Going ALL IN, too soon.
This mindset can trip people up; no one wants to be a beginner. We haven’t worked out in a long time, but we are desperate to get results fast, so we do a program that’s six days a week and say we are going to meal prep and count our macros. Again, this is an all or nothing mindset. After your first week, you feel too exhausted and then can’t keep up, so you stop and then feel bad that you couldn’t keep it up, so you stop and thing the program doesn’t work. It does; you’ve skipped many steps that you learn to get to this point. Would you expect a baby to walk before it can crawl? Well, you shouldn’t expect yourself to be advanced before you can even create somewhat of a routine.
Slow down your horses lol, start and start at the beginning ( see my beginner guide to starting your fitness journey). You have to master one habit before to master all. Try adding one new practice and do it well for 1-3 weeks before adding something else in.
Conclusion
You’re not going to be perfect initially, and even once you have gotten to your goal, you will still mess up. It’s all apart of the growth process and building a relationship with ourselves. Keep making the decision each day that moves you closer to your goal. If you mess up, it’s ok! Recognize it, forgive yourself and move forward.
Let’s say you prepped all your food, and you’ve been doing well, and then someone brings cake, and you eat a piece ITS OK keep moving forward. You will eat your next meal as scheduled and show up for your workout because you need your body to be healthy.
If you miss a workout, start the next day again, and don’t try and double your workouts; keep moving forward; your not in a race
