Patience will show up in life’s challenges as an opportunity for you to practice and will be tested in all areas like traffic, our kids, marriage, our body, maybe a challenging season or a sickness. Rember, when we practice patience in one area, it transcends through all areas.
So even though you are trying to learn patience with your body and the timing of your results, you can practice patience in other areas as well.
How can we practice building patience?
- Start to wait for things on purpose.
- Dont buy the thing you want as soon as you want it; make yourself wait a day or a week.
- Time blocks things throughout your day, including social media, and doesn’t do other tasks until that time is up or you’ve finished doing what you said you would.
- Put off a craving until the next day.
- Let someone else go in front of you at the groceries store or the bank
2. Explore your triggers
What situations are you more patient in than others, and why? If unsure, write them down every time you lose your patience. This could be in any area. Your health and fitness journey, kids, emails, driving. The more aware you are, the easier it will be to practice patience in those moments and change your thinking.
3. Practice being present
A lot of the time, we become impatient because we have so many things on our minds we forget about the moment we are in, like when our kids are trying to ask us a question, and we yell at them because we are distracted by social media or looking on our phones; again time block is great for practicing mindfulness, and or allow yourself 10-20 minutes before you start a new task to get you thoughts in order.
4. Devot a whole day to practice being patient
Everything you do, think about what you are doing and your response to each thing. Patience will always bring peace, and impatience will always stir up frustration.
Last but not least and probably the most important tip for practicing impatience …… is GRATITUDE
5. Practice gratitude
When you feel impatient, write down or say something you are grateful for. Gratefulness is always the antidote for impatience.
EXAMPLE: you get on the scale, and the weight hasn’t gone down
IMPATIENCES SAYS: I’m done. I quit. This isn’t working.
GRATITUD SAYS:
- I am thankful I have all my limbs and legs to be even able to stand on this scale
- I am grateful I can move my body
- I am grateful my body works for me
- Im grateful I have food to fuel my body
It’s all about reframing your mindset because patience is a mindset, and it’s a virtue that requires you to work at it.
